We All Need Editors and Proofreaders
Whatever your circumstances as a writer you’re the talent! However, we all need an editor—a trained ‘second pair of eyes’ to look at our work with an objective and fresh approach—someone who can lift it to the highest possible standard. I work with the utmost professionalism, gained from years of experience, and university training (Master of Arts in Professional Writing).
I am a published author, so I know the trials and tribulations of writing and its processes. Rest assured that when you’re putting your heart and soul into your work, spending long and arduous hours doing so, I am here to ensure it’s edited and presented in the best possible form for forwarding to agents and publishers, or for self-publishing.
I can edit any composition, but I do have my specialist areas.
SPECIALIST AREAS
- short stories to book-length manuscripts
- science fiction and fantasy
- historical fiction
- children’s and young adult (inc. crossovers)
- romance
- horror
- thriller
- comic book and graphic novels
- natural history
- biology
- health sciences
- mythology and folklore
- biography and autobiography
- dissertation, thesis, journals and conference papers (no rewriting)
- articles and collections of essays
- website content
- advertising and marketing content
- social media and comminucations
Notice for academic work: I do not edit or proof bibliographies, apply style-sheets* to departmental guidelines, or check facts—as this is extremely time-consuming. I will also not be held responsible for plagiarism. Undergraduates and Postgraduates must check that your department approves the employment of copy-editing services.

WHAT I USE
I work on a Mac, and use a variety of programmes to suit the authors needs. I prefer to use Microsoft Word (purely as it is the current industry standard), with its tracking and comments system, so you will always know what corrections/improvements/comments have been made to your work. Tracking also enables you to reject or keep each change. I can also use Pages and Adobe InCopy. I can also use in-line edits, but this has to be agreed before I commence any work.
I offer a short primary report, which for me is vital as the first step in the process. This gives you an overview of the work involved, as well as a costing estimate. More importantly, it’s for you to see how I work. When your work is finished I will email a ‘clean’ copy with all changes incorporated and Tracking and comments removed. This clean copy can be used to prepare for eBook publication.
COSTS
My flat rate is £20 per 1000 words. However, it is always best to email me for an obligation-free quote which may provide a saving. I often like to take a project-based approach to pricing. Whereas some projects will be purely text, others may include tables, images etc., which ultimately increases time and the fee.
COPYWRITING
Website copywriting costs are £25 for 500 words. However, as above I often like to take a project-based approach to pricing and writing. I can email samples of my copy should you require.

PAYMENT
An industry standard payment of 50% is required up front, and the remaining balance at the end of the first edit. At present I only accept payment by bank transfer or Paypal. Please be aware that Paypal levies a charge per transaction, which will be added to the total. Unfortunately, I do not accept credit card payments … at this moment in time.
You can usually expect to get a reply within one working day, depending on my workload. I provide lower rates for individuals and authors (compared to corporate identities), and special low rates for students.
Please note that all fees have surcharges if there are costs incurred, e.g., printing, and return postage of anything via post/mail.
